At least in parts of it. If you're afraid of links I'll sum it up for you. These parents let their kid drop out high school to focus on Guitar Hero. He'll receive home tutoring but the main focus is still on Guitar Hero, which he (thinks) will make him quite a bit of money in the future. He's already won some in some leagues etc. but nowhere near what a person can live on.

Seriously, what the Hell? This guy's never touched a real guitar, he's not a talented musician, not a son-of-Jesus athlete. He's good.. at a videogame. As much as I love games even I can agree that this is taking it way too far. This guy's screwed.

And his parents.. Uh? They enrolled him to a Christian school then they let him drop out for Guitar Hero? What crack are they smoking?

I feel bad for this kid, give it five, or ten years time and this game will be forgotten. What will he do then?

I suppose someone's gotta clean the toilets. Eh.

If he was a real guitarist, I still wouldn't say dropping out would be the ideal bet. But yeah, seems like his parents are amongst the.. less smart.. Christians.

I'm not living in America but I thought Christian schools had a reputation for being quite strict/regulated? Doesn't really agree with how his parents are thinking.

dropping out of school is never a good thing! But then again, Gaming is becoming a sport gradually- if you check out Korea and Japan, they have 'athletes' being paid thousands to play games. Unfortunatly, GH is not really a game of much variation (success lies with your mistakes, not with defeating the AI), thus i can never see it being a Game to reach 'athlete' level.

I know gaming is becoming a bigger market. But competitive gaming is still not at the stage where you can call it a reliable career. Sure, some Koreans do get paid, but compared to how many gamers there are, not a lot of them do.

Another thing is that the game is Guitar Hero. Not much tactic involved, just a test of reflex and hand eye coordination. Not really the thing you want to have world championships in.

But more importantly, the competitive gaming community is too small. You can't play for a bad team and land in a bad league and get paid just enough like in, say, soccer. You're either the best or you're out of the game.
